This week was another interesting week in Secret Worlds Legends. The New York Raid and the Regional Mega Bosses were released and so were a number of discussions about various mistakes and errors that came along with the patch that brought them. So let’s take a look and see what all the fuss was about.
The release of the Raid brought back a dreaded nemesis of many players. The lockout timer. Set to lock out players for a week, needless to say, people were not too pleased, especially since it meant they weren’t able to help players experience story mode. Before I go pointing the finger of blame, it was announced on Twitter and on the Official Discord prior to the launch that they were aware of the lockout and had a patch to resolve the issue, unfortunately, they couldn’t squeeze it into the release. True to their word they did patch the following day with a fix that allowed players to rerun the raid but getting lower rewards if they were within the seven day cooldown period.
What has made people wonder is how come this wasn’t implemented from the start of the design process? Why return to lockout system at all when the other activities have moved toward a key based system? Many were curious about the decision-making process behind the scenes. It also led to much speculation about where the priorities lay for Funcom when it comes to developing SWL. While I could speculate I’d basically be going over old ground but we’ll just have to wait to see how things develop. Hopefully, they’ll answer some of the questions that people have raised on the next Dev Stream.
We also saw the release of the Regional Mega Bosses that can be accessed in Agartha. So far the feedback has been fairly low key with much of the complaints being raid related however some people have been experiencing being teleported to empty instances as well as issues with the hit points of bosses meaning the event was over too quickly.
Finally, we were treated to a shiny new box. The new cache has a slightly new approach to loot. Firstly you’ll notice that the clothing is now split up into separate parts. A plus if you only want one of the parts of the clothing but annoying as hell if you want the whole outfit. There’s also a bit of a change to the way the cache dishes out loot. It now keeps an eye on how long it’s been since your last decent drop and increases the drop rate until you eventually get one, after which your chances are reset. As with the previous Caches, it will be available for about a month before being replaced so get your shiny mecha pet, robo sprint and plasma forged weapons while you can.
This hasn’t been the smoothest of weeks, however, the introduction of a story mode version of the raid is a nice move as it will allow people to explore the story and mechanics that the raid offers without having to worry as much about the high-end gear. Until next week, stay safe and have fun in the Secret World.
